Preamble

Student organizations are obligated to understand and adhere to all university policies. These policies are in place to help protect students and enable the university to better manage the resources and processes that support student organizations.

OSE is a resource to help student organizational leaders to better understand university policy and to inform student organizations when they may be in violation of a policy.

Violations of university policies by student organizations are addressed through the Stanford Group Accountability Process.

Fundamental Standard

Stanford University policies are driven from our community’s Fundamental Standard, which was established in 1896.

The Fundamental Stanford sets the standard of conduct for students and embodies the values and definition of good University citizenship. It states: “Students at Stanford are expected to show both within and without the University such respect for order, morality, personal honor and the rights of others as is demanded of good citizens. Failure to do this will be sufficient cause for removal from the University.”
