Core Guidelines
Tree Tip
Student organizations must know and follow all core university policies, applicable laws, and specific university guidelines. Being in charge of a student organization means it's your job to know the rules. Student leaders are also responsible for making sure their group members understand and are following them.
Collective Responsibility
All student groups at Stanford must follow relevant university policies. The concept of collective responsibility means that groups can be held accountable for the actions of their members when those actions are reasonably connected to the group. This policy applies to all student organizations.
Emergencies
Student health and safety is a shared responsibility. It's crucial for all student organization members and leaders to know how to respond in an emergency. When in doubt, call for help. This includes serious injuries, death, fires, intoxication, harassment, and car accidents related to a student organization activity, as well as dance injuries, physical fights, and symptoms like dizziness or fainting.
Travel
Student groups traveling on behalf of Stanford must follow all university policies. Understand the travel processes and requirements before booking domestic or international travel.
Risk management and insurance
Stanford student organizations, as extensions of the university, must adhere to essential health, safety, and risk management requirements. While the university provides limited insurance coverage for organization-sponsored activities, student groups are expected to follow specific policies regarding general transportation, travel, and insurance.
