Giving Overview
Recognized student organizations at Stanford University are not permitted to directly solicit gifts, funding, sponsorships and similar monetary-based requests from Stanford University alumni. Stanford Office of Development coordinates the alumni charitable relationships in order to respect their time, assistance, and contributions as efficiently as possible. Stanford provides tools and official processes for charitable giving through programs, initiatives, campaigns, and one-time/recurring gifts.
Charitable Giving to a Student Organization
Many alumni prefer to support programs and communities that are or have been meaningful to them. If your student organization has been offered a gift that is unsolicited from an alumni, you can direct them to the Give to Stanford page.

Gifting Directions
On the gift intake form, alumni can direct the gift to your VSO. Under the ‘Direct your gift’ form field, they can choose ‘Other Stanford Designation’. In the next field, they can then input the VSO name as the recipient of their gift. It is very important that they denote the proper recognized name of your student organization in CardinalEngage or you can also provide them with your 4-digit GrantEd/ASSU group number. Once the transaction has been processed, the funds will be posted to their unrestricted account in GrantEd.
Using this Stanford tool and official services will allow more options, security, and support for alumni to complete the transaction. Stanford prioritizes convenience and piece of mind for alumni giving so that they feel reassured their gift is being handled professionally.
