University policy specifies practices that protect the privacy of individuals and is dictated by federal law.

Student leaders may never ask for or store the following student information:

  • credit card numbers
  • bank or other financial account information

All are protected by federal law and university policy.

In addition, all confidential data in electronic form should be encrypted and should not be stored locally on desktop machines or laptops. Members of the Stanford community should familiarize themselves with applicable laws and university policies on privacy as provided by the university.
