Safety

Policy

For safety reasons, Stanford University does not permit high-impact, high-risk activities to be held on Stanford land or to be sponsored by university departments and groups (e.g. hang gliding, bungee jumping, inflatables, bounce houses, or skydiving)/ Additional information can be obtained through the Office of Risk Management.

  • Groups must consult with Office of Student Engagement (OSE) when planning large, unusual or potentially high-risk events and may be required to obtain additional review from the university. In organizing such events, the planner may assume responsibility for the safety of participants and may be held personally liable in case of accidents.
  • Liability waivers must be used for high-risk activities, such as camps or programs with youth, physical events, competitions, travel or similar activities.

Fire Safety

Fire is one of the most overlooked threats to large events. Work with the Fire Marshal’s Office to ensure compliance with local law and improve fire safety. Also, consider the following:

  • Never allow a room to fill past its posted capacity
  • Make sure all exit doors, exit signs, sprinklers, fire alarms, and fire extinguishers are unobstructed
  • Treat any large indoor decorations with fire retardant spray
