Fraternity and Sorority Life Workgroups Update | Monday, February 1st 2021
In summer 2020, following the release of the campus AAU data and in an effort to proactively address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Fraternity and Sorority Life community, workgroups were established at the direction of Senior Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Students, Mona Hicks and Associate Vice Provost for Inclusion, Community and Integrative Learning, Emelyn dela Peña.
Seven workgroups were established and announced to student leaders in an email sent in June 2020. The workgroups are charged with creating recommendations to address diversity, equity and inclusion, harm reduction, community values, wellness and flourishing as well as other aspects specific to the fraternal experience at Stanford. The composition of the groups include alumni, students and staff.
A complete list of the workgroups is available here.
As of January 31, 2021 four of the workgroups have completed their recommendations for future implementation in the Greek community. The committees who have submitted their final recommendations are Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Member Programming, Engagement, and Retention; Well-being and Flourishing; and Recruitment, Intake, and New Member Education. The recommendations will be reviewed by Associate Vice Provosts Mona Hicks and Emelyn dela Peña, before receiving final approval and implementation by the Fraternity and Sorority Life professional staff and fraternity and sorority life community leaders and members.
The remaining committees, which include Harm Reduction: Alcohol and Other Drugs; Harm Reduction: Interpersonal Violence and Healthy Relationships; and Community Values, are continuing their work through winter quarter and possibly into spring 2021.
